Annual music festival returns to Porcupine Mountains State Park

The 15th Annual Porcupine Music Festival will be held Friday through Sunday, Aug. 23-25, at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park’s winter recreation area (ski hill) in Ontonagon County.
Festival-goers will enjoy three days of music performed by headline acts along with a host of other accomplished musicians. In addition to the performances taking place on the main stage, there will be a variety of talented acts making music on the indoor Chalet stage. A third venue at the festival is the Busking Barn Stage, an all-acoustic offering where amateur and professional performers play in an intimate setting for tips. Performer workshops and activities for children are also part of the festival.
New this year is a mobile stage unit that raises the platform higher than in the past in order to provide improved sightlines for attendees once the dancing up front starts. It also provides better protection from the elements, said Cheryl Sundberg, festival director.
“We are very excited about being able to bring in the mobile stage unit which we hope improves the experience for all,” she said. “As we run on a very modest budget and have logistical challenges, adjustments are made as we can…in baby steps, and we keep making progress to make this the best event it can be,” she said…
