Marquette ramps up for Halloween

The ghost of an ancient mariner passes by, dwarfed by a twelve-foot-tall skeleton that bobs and weaves above a huge crowd. A group of dancers move in a smooth traditional dance, oblivious to the zombie in the red dress that staggers past them. A giant silk cocoon unfolds, revealing a young girl inside.

Belly dancers with shimmering hair thread their way through twirling fire and a huge crow watches everything with a sharp unblinking eye. Is this some kind of horror movie apocalypse that’s come to the Queen City? No, it’s just the Marquette Halloween Spectacle.

The Marquette Halloween Spectacle is a joint production between the Downtown Development Authority and the City of Marquette Arts and Culture Division. It is a true extravaganza of music, dancing, puppets, costumes, makeup…..
