Four seasons of fun—the U.P. offers a variety of recreation activities year-round. Skiing, ice climbing, mountain biking, fishing and hiking are just a few outdoor sports popular in area. While most can be enjoyed and completed alone, it can be intimidating to learn new activities without the aid of a coach, or an experienced friend. Women and girls of all ages, background and abilities looking to share their knowledge and skills, along with those looking to improve skill, or learn new activities are invited to join She Jumps. This national non-profit, which began more than 10 years ago in Salt Lake City, recently formed in the Marquette area.

In mid-2017, Michigan Technological University alumna Carly Siko accepted a position as the Michigan ambassador for the group. Founded in 2007 by Claire Smallwood, Lynsey Dyer and Vanessa Pierce, She Jumps is a women-focused organization helping to create and organize activities to encourage women and girls to get into the outdoors. Siko learned about the organization through a friend at Michigan Tech who had previously lived in Utah.
