One year removed from when Marquette hosted its infamous NHL Hockeyville game, Lakeview Arena is still searching for ways to build off the notoriety and financial compensation that came with the achievement.

When Lakeview Arena breezed through a series of national voting rounds to find the country’s top hockey arena in the spring of 2016, eventually capturing the title, the historic Marquette venue was awarded $150,000 for arena upgrades along with the chance to host a preseason game between the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres.

Andrew MacIver of the Marquette Parks and Recreation Department was one of the leading forces who campaigned for bringing Hockeyville to Marquette, and was a key contributor in getting the arena ready for the nationally televised game in fall of 2016…
