A day in the life of Sister City delegate Mio Zushi

by 8-18 Media

From November 6 through 14, Marquette was visited by a group of ten middle school students and three advisers from Marquette’s Sister City, Higashiomi (Japan).
The group stayed with different host families in the community. Our family served as one of the host families. Mio Zushi, fifteen, spent a fun week with us and even ended up taking a hockey road trip with us to Eagle River (Wisconsin).
During her stay, she was introduced to the community, attended school at Bothwell Middle School, visited many Marquette area landmarks and even caught the opening night of the MSHS production of Fiddler on the Roof (in which Kelsie appeared).
During rare quiet moments, she taught Charles how to speak a little bit of Japanese, entertained our family on the piano, played video games (she had not heard of Guitar Hero), and made our family a dinner of miso soup and green tea. Here is a collection of photos we took during her visit.

“Hello and welcome to
our town of Marquette.”

At the Marquette Fire hall, delegates met up with Sparky the Fire Dog
and the firefighters and learned about their job in the community: Smile Sparky!

Mio’s favorite Guitar Hero song––“Hit me with your best shot.”

Mio prepared a traditional Japanese meal
for her host family with the help of Charles.

Mio also spent the weekend cheering on Carlie’s hockey team
in Eagle River (Wisconsin): Go Carlie, go!
